(Yicai) Sept. 24 -- China topped the medal table at the 48th WorldSkills Competition for the fifth time in a row, after the country put in its best-ever performance at the biennial event -- often described as the “Skills Olympics”-- since it first participated in 2011.

China fielded 71 competitors and secured 41 gold, 11 silver, and four bronze medals, as well as six Medallions for Excellence at the six-day event, which concluded in Shanghai yesterday evening.

It was also the biggest WorldSkills Competition so far, with 1,385 competitors from 68 countries and regions vying for honors in 64 vocational skill categories.

Draped in China’s national flag, He Xiaoman accepts the Albert Vidal Award, the event’s best competitor honor. The gold medalist in the rail vehicle technology category, she achieved the highest overall score.

The WorldSkills Competition flag is handed over to representatives from Japan’s Aichi prefecture, where the next event will be held in 2028.
