(Yicai Global) March 3 -- Intel and Lenovo are providing their big data analysis tech and computing resources to help Chinese gene technology services provider BGI Genomics more efficiently study the genome characteristics of Covid-19.

The additional resources will help scientists study the toxicity and transmission patterns of the virus, The Paper reported, citing a joint statement from the three firms. It will also facilitate investigations into the interaction between pathogens and hosts and aid epidemiological and vaccine research, which can improve diagnosis and protective measures like immunotherapy in the future.

Shenzhen-based BGI can use this research to improve its coronavirus detection kit and obtain valuable information from the tests to identify potential targets for future vaccines or treatments.

"BGI analyzes viral genome data to study topics including the rapid identification of infected people and genomic characteristics," said Wang Rui, vice president of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group and general manager of Intel China. "These tasks require huge computing resources, which is exactly where we can play a role."

Shares in BGI [SHE:300676] closed 2.6 percent higher on the news at CNY88.16 (USD12.63).
