(Yicai Global) Aug. 30 -- Chinese e-commerce and logistics giant JD.com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD] will offer a prize of up to USD15 million (CNY100 million) in a contest to fly a drone over the summit of Qinling mountain range at a conference in Shaanxi province's capital city of Xian.

The meeting, which JD.com, the Shaanxi provincial government and the Xian municipal government agreed to hold yesterday, will host the Qinling-flyby contest, a drone-racing competition, high-level discussions, exhibitions and cultural performances, NetEase Technology reported.

The event will include heats to test the performance and technical features of unmanned aerial vehicles in an adverse environment.

JD.com will also sign cooperation agreements with the Shaanxi provincial government and relevant companies to promote the establishment of its global logistics headquarters, its drone industry headquarters and a Shaanxi base for its big-data and cloud operations.

Located in southern Shaanxi province, the Qinling mountains provide a natural boundary between northern and southern China. At more than 3,750 meters in elevation, Mount Taibai is the range's main peak. Qinling divides the Guanzhong Plain from southern Shaanxi's mountainous areas.
