Meituan’s Ride-Hailing App Is Back After Two-Year Hiatus in Wake of Didi Ban(Yicai Global) July 12 -- Meituan Dache, the ride-hailing unit of lifestyle services giant Meituan, has popped up in Android app stores in recent days after being phased out in 2019. The reemergence comes on the heels of regulators ordering sector giant Didi Chuxing’s app off mobile stores for the unlawful collection and use of consumer data.
Revamped with a new black and yellow logo, Meituan Dache is now available to users in over 100 cities, including Beijing for the first time, according to tech giant Huawei Technologies’ app store. It is not yet available on Apple’s app store.
Meituan Dache has been sending out a host of promotional offers to herald its return, including digital ‘red envelopes,’ a modern twist on a traditional way of gifting money. One Yicai Global journalist was fortunate enough to receive CNY20 (USD3) for joining up as a new user.
The Meituan Dache app positions itself as an aggregate platform through which customers can also access other car-sharing services such as Caocao Chuxing and Shouqi.
