(Yicai Global) Jan. 30 -- NetEase Games, one of China's largest developers, has acquired a minority stake in Quantic Dream, the team behind last year's PlayStation 4 hit Detroit: Become Human, as part of efforts to expand its gaming portfolio on multiple platforms.
The Beijing-based firm described the investment as "strategic" in a statement without elaborating on details such as investment amount or the size of its stake.
The investment aims to support the Paris-based studio's vision of becoming a global, multi-franchise entertainment company, and to develop advanced technologies and games for the future, the statement said.
Quantic Dream will continue to operate independently under the direction of industry veterans David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière.
