New Energy Firms Drag China Stock Markets to Higher Close

(Yicai Global) Jan. 22 -- China's mainland stock markets closed higher this afternoon, led by tech firms in the new energy sector, while the pharma industry underwent correction after surging for two days, buoyed by the outbreak of pneumonia in central Wuhan.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.28 percent higher at 3,060.75. The Shenzhen Component Index was at 11,072.06, up 1.08 percent, while the ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, rose 1.37 percent to 1,993.90.

EV battery suppliers led the markets as Contemporary Amperex Technology [SHE:300750] hit record high of CNY133.82 (USD19.40) in 10 percent growth. Guoxuan High-Tech [SHE:002074], a supplier previous reported to have secure investment from German auto giant Volkswagen, also rose to the 10 percent limit up at CNY23.11.
