(Yicai Global) Oct. 24 -- Bicycle-sharing firm Beijing Bikelock Technology Co. (Ofo) has entered Israel, introducing its green short-trip commuting service to the Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv.
Ofo bicycles have gained support from school groups as well as teachers and students. The firm rolled out the first batch of 100 bicycles in 19 parking lots on campus. Before the end of this year, Ofo will offer 1,000 shared bicycles in Israel.
"Israel is an important stop for Ofo in going global, and Ofo is devoted to bringing services to each city needing green and convenient short-trip commuting solutions," Ofo founder and Chief Executive Dai Wei said. "We hope we can realize the objective of improving global eco-environment by spreading green environmental protection ideas to the urban residents and appeal to the public to adopt more efficient and convenient low-carbon commuting method to realize the objective of improving the global eco-environment."
After making its way into Israel, Ofo needs to enter three countries to hit its goal of bringing its services to 20 countries by the end of this year. The company will work with Chinese tech firms Huawei Technologies Co. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] to build an ecosystem promoting China's scientific and technological development.
