(Yicai Global) July 9 -- China's lamp maker Opple Lighting will expand its business to offer home interior design packages to a generation which does not like to decorate.

Millennials are increasingly reluctant to decorate their homes, Opple's Chief Executive Ding Long said at the China International Building Decoration Fair in Guangzhou.

This is why Opple's selling point is to lower the threshold with competitive pricing and comprehensive service. Clients are asked to send their floor plans and the Shanghai-based firm's team will suggest a design with a quote. Homeowners can install the design model themselves or hire a construction team to do all the work.

"We will neither target the luxury market nor start a price war," Ding said, adding that the decoration price is about CNY1,500-2,000 per square meter (USD227 up).

So far Opple's reach is limited as it only works with dining rooms and bedrooms. The firm is planning to partner with Huawei Technologies, Alibaba Group Holding and Tencent Holdings and other tech tycoons to promote smart home solutions. 

This year, the firm has been scaling up by hiring more staff to its design team and planning new product lines that will be available at its over 100 Opple Lighting Integrated Home stores throughout China, while aiming to return a profit within three years.

"We already have some advantages regarding hardware facilities, and the areas we need to improve in are the design and services," Ding said. Opple gained revenue of almost CNY1.6 billion (USD242 million) this year from its traditional product lines of switches and sockets, as well as bathroom heaters and hardware.

One of Opple's channels for revenue is its business-to-business services. "We have already offered decoration service for long-term rental apartments and hotel chains of some of the top 50 realtors in China," Ding concluded.
