Pacific Quartz Stock Hits Limit Up on Japanese Certification for Chipmaking Materials Pacific Quartz Stock Hits Limit Up on Japanese Certification for Chipmaking Materials

(Yicai Global) Jan. 2 -- Shares in Jiangsu Pacific Quartz, China's leading quartz glassmaker, hit the daily limit up this morning after revealing that Japan's Tokyo Electronics had certified materials it produces for semiconductor manufacturing, opening the door for it to supply overseas clients.

The materials maker's stock [SHA:603688] was up 10 percent at CNY20.68 (USD) at the opening bell, and aside from a brief early morning dip has remained there since.

Tokyo Electronics, or TEL, certified various iterations of Pacific Quartz's materials used in the diffusion process to produce semiconductors, the Chinese firm said in a statement yesterday. The credentials will bolster its cooperation with TEL and downstream companies, it added.

Quartz is often used to make semiconductors thanks to its high purity and temperature resistance and low rate of expansion when heated. Only a handful of companies have TEL certification, such as Germany's Heraeus and United States-based Momentive Performance Materials, due to the complex technologies used to produce quartz.
