(Yicai Global) July 1 -- The digital currency research institute under the People’s Bank of China, Shenzhen Yihua Computer, and two of the automated teller machine suppler’s units have jointly applied to patent an ATM for electronic yuan.

The ATM has a device for depositing and withdrawing e-yuan and a protective booth, according to the abstract of the patent filed on Feb. 23, information updated on business information platform Qcc.Com on June 28 showed. The booth’s door closes when users are inside making digital wallet transactions.

China’s digital yuan has been quickly expanding its application scenarios. Industry experts believe that developing rich support scenarios is the most critical step to promote the electronic currency in the country. Only by making the e-yuan easy to use anytime and anywhere can it be further promoted as legal tender.

Founded in 1999, Yuhua Computer is one of China’s biggest suppliers of ATMs, with a market share of 40 percent. It has sold more than 150,000 of the machines.
