People in China Have Received One Billion Covid-19 Vaccines, NHC Says People in China Have Received One Billion Covid-19 Vaccines, NHC Says

(Yicai Global) June 21 -- China has administered one billion Covid-19 vaccine doses amid the country's accelerating inoculation drive.

The milestone was reached on June 19, the National Health Commission said in a statement yesterday.

The inoculation pace has been accelerating in the country that has approved seven Covid-19 immunization products, including those made by Sinopharm, Sinovac Biotech, and CanSino Biologics, for conditional marketing or emergency use. The products involve different technologies, including inactivated vaccines, adenovirus vector vaccines, and recombinant protein subunit vaccines.

The nationwide immunization coverage can reach 80 percent by December, Zhong Nanshan, academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said last May.

The first domestically developed product for the purpose was approved late last year and the milestone of 600 million doses was logged on May 30.

The battle is global. China has provided other countries with over 350 million doses of Covid-19 jabs so far. The Asian country can offer more than one billion doses to the world in 2021, Zheng Zhongwei, vaccine expert at the State Council, said earlier this month.
