(Yicai Global) Jan. 18 -- Shanghai was the Chinese city with the most employment vacancies last year, while Beijing offered the best levels of remuneration, according to a report published by job-hunting platform Liepin yesterday.

Some 14.18 percent of the country's job openings in 2021 were in Shanghai while Beijing followed with 12.06 percent, according to the survey which looked at the 20 biggest Chinese cities. Shanghai is not only the most populated city in China, it is also the country’s economic powerhouse with many large financial institutions such as the Shanghai Stock Exchange that create lots of jobs.

Beijing, which has a well-developed high-tech industry, was able to offer the biggest wage packages at an average annual salary of CNY263,000 (USD41,515), Shanghai came second with CNY251,130 and Shenzhen third with CNY220,700.

Job listings for high-end talent are mainly in the four biggest, or first-tier, cities of Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, as well as in emerging first-tier cities, the study found. Following Shanghai and Beijing, Shenzhen had the third most employment positions on offer with 9.65 percent, Guangzhou had 6.45 percent and Hangzhou 5.40 percent.

Shanghai attracted the most middle and high-level talent at 11.11 percent. Beijing was close behind with 9.08 percent, while Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hangzhou had 7 percent, 5.77 percent and 4.46 percent respectively.
