(Yicai Global) Dec. 28 -- Shanghai Jiaotong University and YITU Medical said they will jointly set up a laboratory and build a platform for AI tumor imaging to improve the accuracy of diagnoses.
Their collaboration will focus on applying AI in lung cancer diagnosis and solid tumor identification, state-backed online news outlet The Paper reported.
The groups will develop standards for AI data for medical institutions and formulate AI operational processes for clinical care to ensure the safety and normalization of AI in medical applications.
AI imaging has a broad market in China, YITU Medical Chief Executive Ni Hao said. "With a large population base, China has scarcer medical resources," Ni said. "Many hospitals would like to introduce the AI technology due to its urgent demand."
YITU Tech, YITU Medical's parent company, is a startup engaged in research and development of AI. Its investors include Sequoia Capital, Banyan Capital, ZhenFund and Yunfeng Capital, which Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. founder Jack Ma established. The company's smart medical system can screen for early-stage lung cancer and lymph node lesions.
