(Yicai Global) May 17 -- XINTIANDI PLAZA, located in the heart of Shanghai, officially opened today after five months of trial operations. It will focus on meeting the fashion and social needs of urban women and create a new landmark for Shanghai's shopping sector.

The new mall, built by Hong Kong real estate developer Shui On Land, started trial operations in last December. Over 90 percent of its stores have already opened and 97 percent of spaces have been let 16 brands entered mainland China for the first time at the mall, including French dessert brand L'eclair de Genie, Singapore-based PS.Cafe, Belgian diamond brand Diamanti Per Tutti and London design brand For Art's Sake.

A new retail social experience place called Social House by XINTIANDI is built on the fourth and fifth floors of the mall. It is a diverse business ecosystem combining reading, travel, design, cooking, music and sports and features brands such as Joint Publishing, ABC Cooking Studio and high-end gym Space.

Social House also works with Tencent Holding, the operator of China's largest social networking app WeChat, to recommend brands that users may be interested in based on their habits on the social platform. It also offers discount coupons."We have been exploring a forward-looking business model, so came the new retail brand XINTIANDI," said Stephanie B. Y. Lo, Executive Director of Shui On Land, at the opening ceremony today. "It will be dedicated to creating a cultural and social destination and boost the vitality and influence of the entire downtown community." 

Shui On Land, with the sustained execution of its Asset Light Strategy in recent years, is committed to becoming a leading commercial focused property developer, owner and asset manager in China. XINTIANDI will bring more projects in the future, the company told Yicai Global.

Hong Kong's Shui On Group is the controlling shareholder of Shanghai-based Shui On Land. The latter manages 1.67 million square meters of office and retail properties in the cosmopolitan city. It had a total landbank of 8.5 million square meters in China, and nine projects in different development stages in central areas of major Chinese cities as of the end of last year.
