State Grid, BASF, and Others Highlight Green Innovations at Shanghai Carbon Neutrality Expo State Grid, BASF, and Others Highlight Green Innovations at Shanghai Carbon Neutrality Expo

(Yicai) June 9 -- State Grid Corporation of China and German chemical giant BASF were among more than 300 participants exhibiting various innovative achievements and future endeavors in the green and low-carbon sector at the third Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo.

This year's expo saw more than 1,200 low-carbon technologies and products go on display, up 50 percent from a year ago, said the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai, organizer of the three-day event that ended June 7.

State Grid, the firm with the largest exhibition area and a third-time participant, focused on its power balance lean management system at this year's expo. The system enables precise monitoring of resource information related to power sources, the grid, load, and energy storage, facilitating the optimized allocation of electrical resources.

The system supports State Grid's 33 provincial branches in conducting regular real-time power dispatch, ensuring the safety of electricity supply in various regions, Yicai learned. With its support, the company can provide maximum daily power support of up to 14 million kilowatts, with cumulative inter-provincial power support reaching 37.6 billion kW-hours.

State Grid has also leveraged the system to increase its share of clean energy consumption, accumulating 14.9 billion kW-hours of renewable energy consumption so far, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 14.9 million tons, a company representative told Yicai.

BASF, also participating at the Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo for the third time, displayed its new urease inhibitor. The tool can enhance the stability of conventional nitrogen fertilizers, resulting in an average drop of 70 percent in ammonia volatilization losses from urea, improving nitrogen fertilizers' efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions by 0.65 tons per ton of fertilizer used.

BASF is also continuously promoting its low-carbon practices in China, with its 13 factories, including the newly launched integrated base in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, fully powered by green electricity. Using such energy cut CO2 emissions by 375,000 tons last year, the Ludwigshafen-based company noted.

"China is not only a focal point for BASF's investments but also a key area for us to practice green growth," Lou Jianfeng, chairman and president of the firm's country arm, said at the event.

The Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo covered low-carbon technologies, products, and achievements over an area of around 40,000 square meters this year.
