(Yicai) Oct. 28 -- TCL Electronics’ global television shipments climbed 5 percent in the first three quarters of this year to 21.1 million units, buoyed by strong overseas demand for its extra-large and Mini LED models.

Shipments of TCL TVs measuring 75 inches or larger in international markets surged 62 percent from the previous year, highlighting the firm’s expanding foothold in the premium segment, according to the Chinese electronics giant's announcement today.

Global shipments of TCL's Mini LED TVs jumped 153 percent year on year to 2.2 million units, whereas global shipments of TVs of 75 inches and bigger rose by 28 percent, helping drive a 9 percent rise in TCL’s TV business revenue in the period.

The display behemoth is widening its market share abroad. In Europe, shipments of TCL’s 75-inch and larger TVs surged 138 percent, while its Mini LED TV shipments grew by 124 percent in the first three quarters. In North America, the average selling price of TCL TVs rose over 15 percent year-over-year, with shipments of its extra-large and Mini LED TVs increasing by 34 percent and almost quintupling, respectively.

According to Wang Xianming, research director for the TV industry chain at Runto Technology, TV shipments in China fell nearly 3 percent to 23.9 million units in the first three quarters. Overseas markets, particularly in Europe and America, where South Korean and local brands are strong, remain the key focus for Chinese TV makers, Wang added.

The global trend in TVs is shifting toward larger sizes, with the average size worldwide still under 55 inches, compared with over 60 inches in China. This shows significant room for growth overseas, especially for mid-to-high-end products like Mini LED and RGB-Mini LED, Wang concluded.
