(Yicai Global) Nov. 15 -- Chinese telecommunications giant ZTE has completed three vital tests of its self-developed terminal products adapted to the fifth generation of mobile cellular networks in the application scenarios of calling, getting online and sending and receiving WeChat messages using the new technology.

These are the uses to which customers pay the most attention. WeChat is the ubiquitous messaging and third-party payment app of Shenzhen-based tech titan Tencent Holdings.

ZTE, also based in Shenzhen, finished the data service tests on the 5G smartphones yesterday in Shanghai and is set to start trials for multi-scenario research and development of these systems next month, online state media The Paper reported.

Handsets using 5G mobile webs are mainly those that support the sub-6 gigahertz frequency range, while ZTE possesses revolutionary antenna solutions able to cover all frequency ranges from sub-6Ghz to millimeter waves -- a span crucial to 5G communications -- to satisfy the demands of global mainstream operators.

The company will commercially introduce 5G phones in the first half, it projects.
