(Yicai Global) Dec. 7 -- Japanese materials group Toray Industries Inc., a supplier of fast fashion brand Uniqlo, said Dec. 5 that its subsidiary provided fabricated quality data on 149 batches of products, NetEase Finance reported.

The data tampering incidents took place between April 2008 and July last year and 13 enterprises bought affected products, Toray's president said.

Fast Retailing Co.'s Uniqlo was among them. The clothing group held an expo with Toray in Manhattan in October to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their cooperation and discuss future product development.

Established in 1926, Toray Industries specializes in fibers, fabrics, nylon and other finished chemical products as well as carbon fiber reinforced plastics.

Mitsubishi Materials Corp. also fessed up to faking product data in the past month, and many have begun to question the quality control that the Japanese manufacturing industry was once proud of.
