(Yicai Global) Sept. 13 -- The United Nations Children's Fund recently ordered an influenza vaccine Hualan Biological Engineering Inc. [SHE:002007] developed. It is the first order for the vaccine from the UN.

The Henan-based pharmaceutical company said yesterday that its holding subsidiary, Hualan Biological Bacterin Co., recently received a USD3,000 order for the vaccine from the United Nations Children's Fund. Susceptible populations -- such as children above 3 years old, the elderly, the weak and those in areas affected by influenza outbreaks -- can use the vaccine.

Founded in December 1946, the United Nations Children's Fund provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to mothers and children in developing countries and is backed by voluntary contributions. The fund always advocates promoting the rights and welfare of all the children in the world.

Hualan Biological Engineering said this is the first order from institutions of the UN since the product acquired World Health Organization certification in June 2015. The order helps put Hualan Biological Engineering's vaccines on the radar of relevant UN institutions and will aid the firm in expanding into international market.

Hualan Biological Engineering is a leading biopharmaceutical company in China. It mainly produces blood products and vaccines. Hualan Biological Engineering was the first company to develop a vaccine to combat the H1N1 influenza epidemic in 2009.
