(Yicai Global) Oct. 24 -- A joint venture between the University of Cambridge and Gefei Nien Shanghai Material Technology Co., a subsidiary of Chinese agricultural conglomerate New Hope Group Co., will set up an innovation center in Shanghai's Pudong New Area to industrialize patented technology for high-quality graphene and lithium-air batteries, online media outlet Jiemian News reported yesterday.
Cambridge New Hope Technology Co., established in Cambridge in March this year, has received exclusive licenses for lithium-air battery technology and related graphene preparation technology.
The graphene preparation technology adopts the principles of micro fluid mechanics to extract graphite through a physical means. The process is capable of producing 100-percent graphene materials at a low cost and without polluting.
The lithium-air battery technology is able to produce ultra-high capacity batteries, with a capacity three to five times that of a current lithium battery and an energy density three times greater.
New Hope Group aims to utilize the technology to develop its first-generation distribution grid cell in the second half of next year.
