US Unfair Import Probe Into China’s Luxshare Will Not Affect Operations, Apple Supplier Says US Unfair Import Probe Into China’s Luxshare Will Not Affect Operations, Apple Supplier Says

(Yicai Global) Dec. 22 -- The US government’s unfair import investigation into a number of Luxshare Precision Industry’s patents will not have a material impact on the company’s production and business operations, the Chinese electronics device maker, which counts US tech giant Apple as one of its clients, said today.

On Dec. 18, Amphenol, a major producer of electronic and fiber optic cables, invoked Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and is requesting an investigation into unfair imports, according to the US International Trade Commission, which mainly deals with cases involving alleged patent and trademark infringements by imported goods.

The Connecticut-based firm claims that Luxshare has infringed its intellectual property rights on some of the electrical cages and other components that it exports to, imports from or sells in the US.

Five of Luxshare’s US patents are to come under scrutiny, Luxshare said. These include a conductive plastic technology and a terminal horizontal injection molding technology that have been independently developed by Luxshare and are used in high-speed external input/output connectors.

Dongguan, Guangdong province-based Luxshare, which has a 70 percent share of Apple’s AirPod Pro orders, has set up an internal team and hired attorneys in the US to deal with the matter, it said.

Luxshare’s shares [SHE:002475] closed down 0.81 percent today at CNY52.49 (USD8).
