(Yicai Global) Dec. 5 -- The globe's adult diabetic population numbers 425 million, more than double the figure of ten years ago, with one out of every 11 people now afflicted.

China's ranks of diabetes sufferers have now reached 114 million, ranking it first in the world.

The number of diabetics in the Western Pacific Region, including China, is 159 million, making up 40 percent of the global total, followed by Southeast Asia at 82 million, show data the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) lately released.

By 2045, the number of those suffering from the disorder worldwide will increase by about 50 percent to 629 million. Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia will grow by 156 percent, 110 percent and 84 percent, respectively, to become the areas where the syndrome is most pandemic.

After China come India and the US, with 72.9 million and 30.2 million. Treatment costs make the US the clear front-runner at USD348 billion, followed by China with USD110 billion.

China's rate of diagnosis and treatment is a paltry 30 to 40 percent, with the potential market scope for insulin and other essential drugs CNY32 billion (USD4.84 billion), some analysts believe.
