(Yicai) Nov. 6 -- Amap, China’s leading ride-hailing aggregator, is partnering with Xpeng Motors to roll out the electric vehicle maker’s Level 4 robotaxi services on its mobile application.

“The collaboration between Amap and Xpeng is not merely a business upgrade but a key step in our joint exploration of artificial general intelligence,” Guo Ning, chief executive of the navigation app owned by Alibaba Group Holding, said yesterday. He added that Amap and Xpeng plan to expand globally, bringing China’s leading robotaxi services to the international stage.

Before teaming up with Xpeng, Amap had already established close partnerships with more than 40 automakers in smart cockpit and advanced driver-assistance system technologies. The Amap app connects hundreds of mobility service providers across regions and serves more than 800 million monthly active users. Leading robotaxi developers such as WeRide and Pony.ai have already integrated with the platform.

In the robotaxi sector, Amap can leverage its deep understanding of urban traffic to achieve real-time traffic and tidal flow analysis as well as supply-demand forecasting for optimized coordination. It can also compensate for the blind spots of individual vehicle intelligence through multi-vehicle data fusion and provide extensive validation environments for autonomous driving systems.

Amap is also accelerating the globalization of its aggregation ecosystem. The app now covers more than 200 countries and regions, with ride-hailing services available in over 50. Through the platform, China’s robotaxi technology is expected to expand to overseas markets.
