(Yicai Global) Feb. 28 -- US technology firm Yahoo will end its email service in the Chinese mainland today.
Yahoo Mail users can download emails, contacts, and calendar events until the end-of-service deadline, the firm said in a notice, without giving any explanation for its withdrawal. Users will not be able to send or receive emails to or from the Chinese mainland from tomorrow.
Yahoo was established in 1994 and opened its Chinese website in 1999. Its products became unavailable to mainland users from Nov. 1 last year.
Online payment platform PayPal earlier sent a notice to users asking them to change their email address as soon as possible if they were registered with a Yahoo Mail account.
Yahoo’s business covers 24 countries and regions, and its users exceed 500 million. It was acquired by Verizon in 2017.
