YTO Express Will Build USD1.8 Billion Global Air Logistics Hub in Shanghai Suburb YTO Express Will Build USD1.8 Billion Global Air Logistics Hub in Shanghai Suburb

(Yicai Global) July 31 -- Yu Weijiao, chairman of Shanghai YTO Jiaolong Investment Development (Group), the parent company of courier company YTO Express Group, signed an investment agreement with Zhang Rengui, vice mayor of Jiaxing on the outskirts of Shanghai in China's eastern Zhejiang province.

YTO will commit CNY12.2 billion (USD1.8) to establish a global air logistics hub at Jiaxing Airport and will build a massive center for shared transport and a goods collection and distribution center, state media The Paper reported.

The first phase of the global air logistics hub project will cover an area of 1,454 mu (97 hectares/1 square mile) with an overall investment of CNY7.3 billion, per the agreement. The overall building area is 600,000 square meters, including an air cargo hub, an aircraft maintenance park, a global express delivery operation center, an intelligent logistics park, and complimentary office areas.

The project is set to break ground this year and go into operation by 2021, when it will become the global operation base, research and development center and settlement center of YTO Express and YTO Airlines.

YTO will avail itself of Jiaxing's various air, rail, road and water transport modes to build a combined transit platform and create a super intermodal hub and a distribution center in the Yangtze River Delta. Total investment in the project will be CNY12.2 billion (USD1.8 billion).

YTO will run 50 self-owned cargo planes from Jiaxing by 2030, its global air logistics hub, with an annual freight capacity of 1.1 million tons, per the plan. By 2050, that number will rise to 2.4 million tons.

More than 40 percent of the domestic and international express volume is in the Yangtze River Delta and a three-hour flying radius centered on Jiaxing Airport can cover domestic core city belts including the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Chengdu-Chongqing economic belts, said Su Xiufeng, vice president of YTO Express Group and president of YTO Express Airlines, to explain why YTO decided to site its global air logistics hub in Jiaxing.

The three-hour highway transportation can reach 140 million Chinese with the greatest consumption power.

Jiaxing is also equipped with core elements to develop combined transport, as it is in a most convenient and intensive area with air, railway, highway and waterway transport facilities. Jiaxing also has advantages from its proximity to the airports of Shanghai and Hangzhou.

The waterway consists of Jiaxing Port, Ningbo Port and convenient inland waterways. It also has a rail line connecting it with Shanghai and Hangzhou.
