(Yicai Global) April 27 -- The gross domestic product of Zhejiang province, the country's third-richest region, shrunk by 5.6 percent to CNY1.3 trillion (USD185.2 billion) in the first quarter from a year ago as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, according to official data.

All major economic indicators, including those of industrial production, investment, exporting, and online retail, were back on the rise in March, provincial data released today show. Last year, the eastern region's GDP rose by 6.8 percent to CNY6.2 trillion from 2018.

Zhejiang's secondary industry was the worst affected in the first quarter as the added value declined by 11 percent to CNY493 billion (USD69.7 billion) from a year ago. The primary industry's added value narrowed by 0.7 percent to CNY33.5 billion (USD4.7 billion). The service sector was 1.5 percent down at 784.9 billion.
