(Yicai Global) Sept.29 -- Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HK:0700] instant messaging software WeChat and Zibo Public Transport Corp. have introduced a Mini Program that allows bus passengers to scan a QR code and pay the fare right away or later, Fawan.com reported.
Some buses in Zibo city in China's eastern Shandong province are trialing it.
To take the bus, riders can scan a code with their cellphones in a process that takes 0.3 seconds. The system supports immediate and delayed payment, and improves travel efficiency.
"Tencent's bus ride Mini Program extends mobile payment services to the public transport scene, leading bus transport into the efficient, low carbon era of mobile payment, allowing users to enjoy a safe, convenient and comfortable public transport service," said Tencent Vice President Zheng Haojian.
The Mini Program will add subway, electronic invoice, real-time arrival time query and other functions. Tencent will continue to expand the depth of its cooperation with local governments and public transport service providers, offering users safe, convenient and comfortable public transport services.
