Release of Sodium-Ion Battery Industry Technology Roadmap
From June 12 to 14, 2024, the "Third Sodium Ion Battery Industry Chain and Standard Development Forum" was held in Yangquan, Shanxi. This forum released the "China Sodium Ion Battery Industry Technology Roadmap" (hereinafter referred to as the "Roadmap") jointly organized by the China Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization and the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance.
According to the Roadmap, in 2023, there will be more than 30 newly signed sodium ion battery-related projects in China, with a total planned production capacity of more than 260GWh (electric energy unit: gigawatt hours) and a total investment of more than 114 billion yuan. At present, many domestic enterprises have successfully realized the large-scale production of sodium-ion batteries. As of the end of June 2023, the domestic production capacity for sodium-ion batteries was 10GWh, an increase of 8GWh compared to the end of 2022. It is estimated that by 2025, China's planned production capacity of sodium ion batteries will reach 60GWh.
From the perspective of supply and demand, it is estimated that in 2024, the demand for sodium ion batteries in China will reach 11.90GWh, and the shipment volume is expected to exceed 1GWh. In 2026 and 2030, the global demand for sodium ion batteries is about 110GWh and 520GWh, of which the demand for sodium ion batteries for energy storage, two-wheelers and A00 cars is expected to reach 82GWh, 16GWh and 17GWh respectively in 2026.
In addition, according to the public information of this forum, in 2024, the development momentum of sodium ion batteries is strong. According to incomplete statistics, more than 20 sodium power projects were signed, filed, and started during the year, involving many subdivisions such as batteries, positive and negative materials, and the total project investment was nearly 40 billion yuan. As of this forum, a total of four batches of 47 models of sodium-ion batteries through the basic performance evaluation of the battery organized by the forum.
Funeng Technology has mass-produced sodium-ion batteries
According to our incomplete statistics, in the past two months, a total of 7 listed companies in the-share sodium-ion battery industry chain have announced the production of sodium-ion batteries and related raw materials (excluding pure research and development and technology accumulation). Among them, the announcement of sodium ion battery mass production of only one company, for the Fu Neng Technology (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd. (securities abbreviation: Fu Neng Technology; securities code: 688567.SH).
May 17, 2024, Funeng Technology announcement shows that in 2023, the company's new product lithium iron phosphate battery, sodium ion battery and existing product ternary soft pack battery have achieved No-TP (thermal runaway non-diffusion).
