MGI (688114) recently announced the official launch of its laboratory intelligent automation GLI business, fully integrating AI artificial intelligence technology into the field of life science and technology tools.

It is reported that the GLI business has upgraded the intelligent technology of the company's original "laboratory automation business", aiming to help traditional laboratory automation users break through the bottleneck of data-algorithm feeding, implement laboratory software and hardware and overall operation effect faster, and accelerate the unlimited potential of "AI + life science". At present, GLI's business results have been applied in the Genomics Center of Beijing Institute of Brain Science and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

GLI business introduces laboratory AI intelligent tools and robotics technology, and "standardizes the definition" of software and hardware systems, instruments and reagent consumables required by life science laboratories according to laboratory functions and customized workflow needs, forming a series of powerful functional module libraries including advanced AI intelligent tool modules, general automation equipment modules, data computing and storage modules, and ecological hardware modules. It helps laboratory users in the life science field to quickly have platform-based reusable "AI+" application integration capabilities in a short period of time.

In fact, MGI has made a layout for the integration of AI and business applications many years ago, and has published a number of R&D results in authoritative journals. In August 2022, MGI's R&D team released a multimodal single-cell algorithm based on contrastive learning in the journal Nature, which can quickly realize tens of millions of single-cell multi-omics data modeling. In July 2023, MGI's Yang Meng team published an algorithm model named "EvoPlay" in the journal Nature, which can use reinforcement learning algorithms to efficiently design functional proteins.

In addition, in the field of smart laboratories, MGI has successfully built a self-driven unmanned laboratory "ɑLab" based on its self-developed automation platform, combined with digital management system and artificial intelligence technology. In September 2024, MGI launched ɑLabStudio intelligent laboratory management platform, which integrates cutting-edge automation technology and artificial intelligence technology, aiming to provide efficient and intelligent laboratory management solutions for global life science research and help realize the "autonomous driving" of life science experiments.
