The

world's first 808W module was born, and Trina Solar took a step forward in the industrialization of tandem cell modules

On March 23, Trina Solar (688599. SH) WeChat official account said that the 210 large-size perovskite/crystalline silicon two-terminal tandem modules (area of 3.1 square meters) developed by the company's National Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology have been certified by the TüV SÜD (TüV SüD) testing laboratory, with a peak power of 808W, becoming the world's first industrial standard size photovoltaic module product with a power exceeding the 800W threshold, creating a new world record and making epoch-making significance in the field of perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem technology.

The theoretical efficiency limit of crystalline silicon cells is 29.4%, and according to the statistics of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, the efficiency of the current mainstream photovoltaic cell technology route has reached more than 26%, and the conversion efficiency of crystalline silicon cells is gradually approaching its ceiling. According to relevant research reports, the theoretical conversion efficiency of single-junction perovskite cells can reach 33%, and the theoretical efficiency of perovskite tandem cells can reach 45%.

At present, the development of more efficient tandem cells has become a new focus of the industry. Trina Solar disclosed that perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem technology will become the vane of next-generation photovoltaic technology due to its high cell efficiency, achieving a historic leap from "silicon-based cells" to "tandem cells".

Further, Trina Solar has been deeply deploying perovskite tandem technology since 2014, and has taken the lead in undertaking science and technology support projects in Jiangsu Province with Nanjing University, Nankai University and other universities. In 2019, the company participated in the national key project of "design, preparation and mechanism research of perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cells". The company has applied for a total of 331 patents in the field of perovskite tandem technology, and has improved the conversion efficiency of perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem cells through perovskite phase doping, interface treatment and composite layer structure design.

Gao Jifan, Chairman and CEO of Trina Solar, said that the successful preparation of the world's first 210 standard industrial size 800W+ perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem cell module product means that the company has taken an important step in leading the industry to the industrialization of tandem modules, and further consolidated the company's leading position in the technology of next-generation photovoltaic products.

Many forces poured into the tandem battery field

At present, the field of perovskite tandem cells has poured into many forces to tackle tough problems on the track.

On February 27, 2025, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association released the "China Photovoltaic Industry Development Roadmap (2024-2025)", adding a new conversion efficiency index for rigid/flexible/perovskite-crystalline silicon tandem/perovskite-perovskite tandem solar cells.

In the same month, Wang Rui's team from the Future Industry Research Center and the School of Engineering of Westlake University made important achievements in the field of perovskite/copper indium gallium selenide tandem solar cells. The team used wide-bandgap perovskites to fabricate four-terminal tandem cells and two-terminal flexible tandem cells, achieving photoelectric conversion efficiencies of 30.13% and 23.41%, respectively.

In the field of listed companies, in terms of forward-looking R&D of next-generation technologies, LONGi Green Energy (601012. SH) crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cell conversion efficiency exceeded 34.6%, continuously refreshing the world record of silicon-perovskite tandem; The authorized certified efficiency of the commercial M6-sized crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cell reached 30.1%, making a breakthrough in commercial application.

In addition, two energy industry standards, "Test Method for Quantum Efficiency of Tandem Solar Cells" (NB/T11735-2024) and "I-V Test for Perovskite-based Tandem Solar Cells" (NB/T11736-2024), led by LONGi Green Energy, were approved and released in December 2024. Among them, the "I-V Test of Perovskite-based Tandem Solar Cells" is the first industry standard issued in the field of perovskite cells in China.
