(Yicai Global) June 15 -- Yao Yong, director of the product review agency of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s equipment industry development center, is being investigated by China's top anti-corruption watchdog on suspicion of discipline violations and breaking the law.

The unit where Yao works oversees checks on whether car emissions meet China's standards, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said on June 13.

Born in 1973, Yao has worked at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's laboratory and the comprehensive management department of the China Vehicle Technology Service Center. He became deputy director of the product review department of the Equipment Industry Development Center in 2018 before assuming his current post.

Yao's department supervises the technical review of vehicle access permits, fuel consumption, and new energy vehicle credits, according to the MIIT’s website. It also deals with the dynamic assessment of review experts, assists in formulating and revising vehicle technical conditions such as product access, and reviews whether car emissions meet China's standards.
