(Yicai Global) Dec. 13 -- The Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) announced its list of 54 new Fellows this year on Dec. 11, among whom ten Chinese made the cut, including Professor Yang Qiang from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Ma Yi from the University of California, Berkeley, and Dr. Rui Yong, chief technology officer of Lenovo Group Ltd. These new fellows have greatly contributed to database theory, design automation, information retrieval, multimedia computing and network security, and thereby pioneered the transformation of both science and society, and their achievements have been instrumental in daily life and work, ACM said.

The fellows come from universities, enterprises and research centers in Canada, the mainland, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland, the UK and the US, and their research fields include artificial intelligence, Big Data, computer architecture, computer graphic technologies, high-performance computing, human-computer interfaces, sensor networks and wireless network, etc.

Other Chinese Fellows of this year are Gabriel H. Loh from AMD, Shih-Fu Chang from Columbia University, Martin D. F. Wong from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Wenke Lee from Georgia Institute of Technology, Zhai Chengxiang from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Erran Li from Uber Advanced Technologies Group, and Aidong Zhang from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

ACM will host its awards banquet in San Francisco on Jan. 23 to formally honor these new fellows. Founded in 1947, the New York-based ACM is the largest and oldest international scientific and industrial computer society.
