Alibaba Becomes First Chinese Member of JCP Executive Committee Alibaba Becomes First Chinese Member of JCP Executive Committee

(Yicai Global) May 17 -- China e-commerce colossus Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. was invited today to join global computer language management organization the Executive Committee of the Java Community Process (JCP), making it the first Chinese company that has obtained the seat, and this development is expected to bring more experiences with Chinese features into the formulation of Java standards.

Alibaba was elected mainly because the company has amassed rich Java application scenario practice in e-commerce, financing and logistics. Alibaba's Java architecture has withstood a series of tests of stability and high-performance during China's Black Friday-style Double-11 (November 11) shopping fest and other events, online news outlet Huanqiu reported.

Java, one of the most popular programming languages worldwide, finds application in mobile applications, computer software and the Internet of Things. JCP is an open international technical standards organization responsible for developing and updating Java technical specifications. Its highest decision-making body, the Executive Committee, which is made up of 24 members, is responsible for planning the direction of Java technical evolution.

US technology giants such as Oracle Corp., IBM Corp. and Intel Corp. have long led JCP's formulation of Java specifications.  Alibaba will bring more Chinese developers' voices to the formulation of Java specifications and turn Chinese standards into global ones.

Alibaba released ITS Alibaba Java Coding Guidelines to global developers to publicize its specifications for the first time early last year. This has been instrumental in improving code standardization, promoting quality and efficiency and reducing code maintenance costs.
