(Yicai Global) July 18 -- Amazon China, one of the country's leading online booksellers, will stop selling paper volumes altogether today, leaving just its Kindle store and e-book category available.

Amazon China ceased sales of proprietary paper books on July 1 and will now also end its physical book service for third-party merchants, it said in a statement.

Chinese consumers will still be able to buy proprietary and third-party goods from abroad, while domestic merchants will not be able to sell goods to Chinese consumers at home but can still sell abroad through Amazon's overseas branches. Amazon China's cloud computing business will also continue to operate, it said.

"Amazon China made adjustments to its China retail business, including paper books, in April this year," it told Beijing Business Today at that time, "to accelerate the development of its cross-border online retail business, optimize operational efficiency and improve profitability."
