Apple Aims to Boost Chinese Sales With New WeChat Account Apple Aims to Boost Chinese Sales With New WeChat Account

(Yicai Global) Jan. 19 -- Apple Inc. has opened a new public account on Tencent's Holding Ltd.'s vastly popular lifestyle app WeChat to make it easier for users to purchase the firm's products.

The account will provide information about Apple devices and customer services, as well as serving as a gateway to the smartphone giant's sales website.

Sales of flagship handset iPhone X in China so far have been subdued, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported last month. The firm has also slashed its global sales target from 50 million units to 30 million for the first three months of this year and may be looking for ways to increase sales in the country, one its key markets.

Apple's WeChat account is yet to push any messages to users, though its information section gives a comprehensive overview of the company and product line-up.
