(Yicai) May 30 -- Shares in Appotronics surged as much as 6.8 percent today after the Chinese laser display maker said it has once again been chosen to supply smart cockpit displays to Seres Group, the electric car manufacturing partner of technology giant Huawei Technologies.

Appotronics [SHA:688007] closed up 5.3 percent at CNY17.49 (USD2.42) in Shanghai today.

Appotronics will supply car-mounted optical solutions to Seres’ latest Aito autos, the Shenzhen-based firm said late yesterday. The project has an expected lifecycle of three years and mass production should be realized in 2025, it said. But the names of the new models were not specified, nor was the estimated revenue.

Appotronics’ first vehicle-mounted displays were installed in the Aito M9 which hit the market at the end of last year. The model, which is powered by Huawei’s intelligent driving software, has been selling well and had secured over 80,000 non-refundable orders as of May 11.

Appotronics, which developed the first vehicle-grade huge screen projector that can be used for in-car entertainment and office presentations, earned CNY48 million (USD6.6 million) from the sale of in-car displays in the first quarter, according to its latest financial report.
This was a breakthrough for the firm, as it was its first revenue from this new business stream.
