Audi Recalls 660,000 Cars in China Over Fire Risk Audi Recalls 660,000 Cars in China Over Fire Risk

(Yicai Global) May 17 -- FAW Volkswagen Automotive Co., a China joint venture under the world's biggest carmaker, will recall nearly 660,000 Audis in the country due to problems with electric coolant pumps which could pose a fire risk.

The recall will begin on June 6, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said online yesterday. The affected models are listed below:

Made between Nov. 7, 2011 and Nov. 8 2013 (20,300 cars)

2013-14 Audi A4 Allroad

2012-14 Audi A5

Made between May 3, 2011 and Jan. 17, 2016 (638,800 cars)

2012-15 Audi A6L

2013-14 Audi A4L

2013-14 Audi Q5

There are two issues with the pumps. The first is that they are at risk of overheating if blocked by debris, and the second is that moisture could lead to an electrical short. The problems could lead to corrosion, and in severe cases, the engine bay catching fire.
