Beijing Topped China's Average Wages Last Year Beijing Topped China's Average Wages Last Year

(Yicai Global) June 5 -- Beijing ranked first among China's municipalities and provinces last year in terms of average salaries last year ahead of Zhejiang and Guangdong.

Average wages for non-private and private sector workers in the capital were CNY145,766 (USD21,086.5) and CNY76,908, respectively, reported Shanghai Securities News citing data from 17 areas. 

Non-private sectors include state-owned enterprises, township collective enterprises, joint ventures, joint-stock companies, foreign-invested firms, and companies with investment from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Zhejiang, Guangdong, Qinghai and Jiangsu province followed Beijing as urban non-private workers earned an average of at least CNY80,000.

In terms of cities, Shenzhen came second to Beijing with an average annual wage for urban non-private sector workers of CNY110,304, and CNY63,635 for private sector employees.

The highest average annual wages are in the financial and information technology sectors, followed by scientific research and technical service sectors.

The salaries cited refer to pre-tax wages and also includes personal income tax withheld and social insurance and housing provident fund benefits that are paid by individuals.
