(Yicai Global) Sept. 10 -- Beiqi Foton Motor has introduced the Beiqi Foton 32T liquid hydrogen tractor-trailer rig in Beijing, the world's first heavy-duty liquid hydrogen truck, mainly for use in mining and port construction, transport of urban construction waste and long-distance logistics

The heavy truck is equipped with Beijing Sinohytec's 109-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell engine system, Beijing-based Foton announced at a press conference at the China International Fair for Trade in Services on Sept. 8, China Securities Journal reported yesterday. It uses a liquid hydrogen system and a high-power hub motor and adopts key core technologies to ensure long mileage, high power and long life of hydrogen fuel cells.

The company will continue to conduct in-depth research on various key technologies for hydrogen fuel heavy trucks, smart vehicle control, and safe design of on-board hydrogen system. It has started the construction of hydrogen fuel commercial vehicle and testing capacity project, with nearly CNY1.4 billion (USD204.8 million) in investment to guarantee future R&D, testing and manufacturing, Futian said.

The company also declared the setup of its BiFC Alternative Energy Automobile Science & Technology unit.

The new company will supply Big Data services for fuel cell commercial vehicles, testing platforms, and hydrogen refueling stations. It plans to lead the innovation and development of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industry in China within five to 10 years.
