(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Leading Chinese new energy vehicle maker BYD Co. [SHE:002594] will build a factory producing batteries, electric buses and monorail trains in north Morocco near the Tangier Mediterranean Port (Tanger-Med) and the export duty-free zone.
The firm will build the 50-hectare plant in the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City, a 2,000-hectare aviation, automotive, e-commerce, environment and rail transport industry park, creating some 2,500 new jobs.
The country aims to become more involved in the One Belt, One Road initiative and serve as a bridge between China and African countries, said Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Moroccan minister of industry, trade, investment and the digital economy.
