China's Caixin Manufacturing, Services PMIs Picked Up in August China's Caixin Manufacturing, Services PMIs Picked Up in August

(Yicai Global) Sept. 5 -- China's Caixin manufacturing and services purchasing managers' indices for last month both rose from July, leading to a six-month high Caixin comprehensive PMI of 52.4, up 0.5 from the month before.

The Caixin manufacturing PMI rose to 51.6, up 0.5 point from the month before, while the services index rose 1.2 points to 52.7.

The National Bureau of Statistics', or official, manufacturing PMI for August was 51.7, down 0.3 point on the month, while the service index fell 0.5 point to 52.6 due to adverse weather conditions.

China has two key purchasing managers' indices. The official PMI is run by the state and comprises 3,000 companies, most of which are state owned, whereas the Caixin index, often known as the Caixin-Markit index, reaches out to 500 businesses which are generally smaller and privately owned.

The raw material price index and ex-factory price index of the two manufacturing PMIs rebounded due to environmental restrictions on production capacity and supply-side reform, Caixin's news outlet reported on Sept. 5.

The upturn in both manufacturing and services shows that the economy continued to climb last month, but one should consider whether the recent rise in input prices will hit corporate profits and economic inflation, said Zhong Zhengsheng, chief economist at Caixin's think tank CEBM.

However, it remains to be seen whether the momentum of economic recovery will continue, the report said, adding that the market generally believes that growth will probably fall in the second half of this year.

China's Caixin PMI is provided by international surveying agency Markit Group Ltd. Caixin Media won the naming rights to the index in China in 2015.
