(Yicai Global) Dec. 4 -- Disinfectants for low-temperature and freezing conditions are on the way after more than five months’ research, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention will reveal their formulas and production methods to the public free of charge.

China has set up and is operating a new platform to trace imported cold-chain food, which basically spans its entire information trail from Customs clearance and wholesaling to retail and catering, Zhang Liubo, the agency’s top expert on sterilization, said in an interview with CCTV News yesterday. Coronavirus transmissions are still occurring via imported frozen foodstuffs, though management is steadily going from strength to strength, Zhang noted.

“Sanitizer potency becomes markedly ineffective at low temperatures and completely so after freezing. Even when it doesn’t freeze, sadly, its effectiveness falls several-fold. Thus, we urgently need antiseptics able to remain active at low temperatures under these circumstances," he said.

"We now face a situation where we have to sterilize the outer packaging of all cold-chain food products. This task is thus all the more difficult, and we urgently need new technologies to address it," Zhang added. The CCDC began corresponding technical research after a sudden Covid-19 outbreak in Beijing’s vast Xinfadi wholesale market in June.

China's imported cold-chain food tracking management platform is now linked to nine provinces and cities and encompasses over 90 percent of the country's first-stop imports of cold-chain food, per media reports, so this mechanism can now monitor the bulk of these arrivals as they migrate along the chain.
