(Yicai Global) Nov. 12 -- A nuclear fuel assembly plant jointly funded by China General Nuclear Power and NAC Kazatomprom has been put into production in east Kazakhstan, CGN announced on its WeChat account yesterday.
With a project operation period of 20 years, the plant is designed to produce 200 tons of nuclear fuel components a year, which can meet the needs of eight megawatt-class nuclear reactor units.
Construction work on the plant started in December 2016, and production line appraisal was completed this September. CGNPC Uranium Resources under CGN owns a 49 percent stake, with Kazatomprom holding the rest.
Shenzhen-based CGN and Kazatomprom have also cooperated in uranium resource mining, natural uranium trading, and nuclear fuel pellet processing. They have jointly developed four uranium mines in Kazakhstan: Irkol, Semizbay, Central Mynkuduk and Zhalpak.
