China, Europe Set Up Innovation Consortium for Green Energy Certification China, Europe Set Up Innovation Consortium for Green Energy Certification

(Yicai) June 26 -- China and Europe have established the International Cooperation and Innovation Consortium for Green Power Certification to jointly promote the connection of renewable energy standards, rules, and resources between the pair.

The consortium was initiated by China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute and five leading European certification organizations: Bureau Veritas from France, TÜV NORD and TÜV Rheinland from Germany, Société Générale de Surveillance from Switzerland, and Det Norske Veritas from Norway, according to a ceremony held at the fourth China Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum in Chengdu yesterday.

The consortium will aim to “build an international cooperation platform and connect the green energy mutual recognition network” with the mission of “serving companies to consume green energy, building an open, inclusive, authoritative, trustworthy, and efficient global certification cooperation ecosystem,” said Zhang Jian, vice president of China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute.

The hope is to establish a unified rule system or traceability standards between China and Europe to achieve mutual certification of green energy, as well as promote the recognition of green attributes and cross-border circulation of renewable energy, Yang Jun, deputy chief economist of China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute, said during a dialogue session at the forum.

The consortium can promote bilateral mutual adoption of green standards and green certification, said Liu Zhongyong, director of the hydrogen business at Bureau Veritas China. Companies can obtain certificates that meet Chinese and European Union requirements by conducting one on-site certification, which can reduce relevant costs and improve efficiency, Liu pointed out.

China and Europe have complementary advantages and enormous potential for cooperation in green energy technology innovation, noted He Yang, deputy director of the National Energy Administration of China.

Europe is a pioneer in energy transformation and a leader in tech innovation, with abundant technological reserves and research and development capabilities in clean energy, He stressed. China is the world’s largest energy consumer and clean energy investor, having the most complete clean energy industry system in the world, He added.

Strengthening technological ties and full chain industrial cooperation in clean energy between China and Europe is in line with their common interests and helps inject more stability into the turbulent world energy landscape, He pointed out.
