(Yicai Global) Dec.16 -- China's Guangzhou Automobile Group expects to start testing graphene batteries, which can be charged very fast, in vehicles by the end of this year.
The tests should prove whether the technology should be mass-produced, the carmaker said in a statement yesterday. Aion models, produced by GAC New Energy, would be the first vehicles to be equipped with the emerging technology.
In May, GAC said that it has independently developed a "super fast-charging battery" that can be charged up to 85 percent in eight minutes, based on its tests. It had reached a breakthrough in developing the power unit that uses three-dimensional graphene in November 2019.
After beginning to work with the wonder material in 2014, the company has secured patents for its graphene-related technologies, including graphene synthesis and supercapacitors.
GAC’s stock price [SHA:601238] fell 1.1 percent to CNY13.84 (USD2.10) this afternoon.
