(Yicai Global) Aug. 5 -- China's Huawei Technologies has hired a 27-year-old doctoral student in computer science with an annual salary of CNY2 million (USD289,038) as part of its generous recruitment campaign.

The Shenzhen-based company has recruited two recent graduates and two PhDs in its global Genius Youth campaign this year, Changjiang Daily reported yesterday. The two PhDs come from Wuhan's Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Zhang Ji, the PhD who got the highest salary, received offers from Tencent Holdings, International Business Machines, and Alibaba Group Holding, with the highest pay exceeding CNY3.6 million. But Zhang said that he wanted to make his contribution to try to help the Chinese telecoms company amid its toughest times.

Two graduates of Xi’an Jiaotong University with bachelor's degrees in computer science have also joined Huawei consumer business group's Hongmeng operating system and Gauss database research teams with salaries starting from CNY896,000 (USD128,897), the university said in a statement on its Weibo account.

"Huawei will attract top talent with top challenges and competitive salaries," Chief Executive Ren Zhengfei said in a speech once. "Young talents will bring forth a catfish effect and motivate our team."
