(Yicai Global) April 20 -- Jianghuai Automobile Group is teaming up with vehicle chip unicorn Horizon Robotics to secure access to hard-to-get semiconductors and also to spur collaborations on intelligent connected cars, the Chinese car manufacturer said yesterday.

Hefei, eastern Anhui province-based JAC will use Horizon’s smart chips in all the vehicles that it produces this year, mainly to power the advanced driving assistance system and intelligent cockpit.

Horizon will also provide JAC with edge-computing AI solutions that allow algorithms to be implemented internally, rather than relying on external cloud platforms, to improve speeds, it said. Beijing-based Horizon will provide hardware, software and algorithmic support for product development and integration, it added.

The current scarcity of chips is not likely to affect the company’s revenue this year as JAC’s smart cars are still in the promotion phase, JAC said.

JAC’s share price [SHA:600418] closed down 3.25 percent today at CNY8.92 (USD1.40).
