(Yicai Global) Nov. 24 -- China Mobile Ltd. [HK:0941], one of the country's three major telecom operators, will introduce a new version of its once vastly popular integrated communications service platform Fetion for government and enterprise usage.

Fetion has been squeezed out of the market in recent years due to the rapid growth of Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HK:0700] Wechat and QQ platforms.

The new version of Fetion, known as RCS, places more of an emphasis on personal business and will also provide information and technology services for enterprises and institutions to help them undertake informatization, office automation, audit and public opinion monitoring.

The platform will create a new smart mobile office model for enterprises and improves the efficiency of corporate management, China Mobile says. In terms of personal usage, Fetion does not require adding friends like Wechat and QQ and can provide basic communication functions such as messaging as well as multiparty calls and video.

China Mobile reportedly halted part of Fetion-related businesses in June 2016 and renamed it RCS. Since then, it has transitioned from an instant-messaging service to a corporate service. China Mobile invested a total of USD12.71 million (CNY83.9 million) on its upgrades in recent months.
