China Now Has 270 Live-Streaming Sites, Mostly Based in First-Tier Cities China Now Has 270 Live-Streaming Sites, Mostly Based in First-Tier Cities

(Yicai Global) Aug. 10 -- China has a total of 270 live-streaming platforms in operation, according to a report from market research agency Dominer Big Data Institute.

Three first-tier cities, Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai, have the greatest concentrations of live-streaming sites. The report shows that most live-streaming platforms are registered in more economically-developed cities situated in coastal regions.

Beijing has the most at 98, Shenzhen has 59 and Shanghai has 30. Hangzhou, the capital of eastern Zhejiang province, and Guangzhou in southern Guangdong province have 24 and 21 sites, respectively.

Jinhua, a relatively obscure third-tier city in Zhejiang comes in sixth place with 13 platforms, due to a high number of local online streaming businesses. The city outranks multiple second-tier cities, such as Chongqing, Wuhan and Nanjing.

Jinhua's local government has long placed a great emphasis on the local online entertainment sector, the report's author Xie Liangbing said.

The city's local internet entertainment industry has attracted a number of leading live-streaming firms, including Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HKG:0700] Now Live platform and China's second-biggest platform, Panda TV.

Jinhua is also home to the world's largest movie studio, Hengdian World Studios, and the key trade hub for small commodities, Yiwu.
