(Yicai Global) April 14 -- China continued to hike its imports of pork and beef and other meats during the first quarter to meet domestic consumption demand, data released today by the country's General Administration of Customs show .
China landed 950,000 metric tons of pork, up 170 percent from the same period last year, and also brought in 513,000 metric tons of beef during the period, up about 65 percent, per the data.
Pork prices have been ruinously high in recent months as a shrinking supply caused by the African Swine Fever epidemic, which decimated the nation's hog herd for more than one year, has kept the nation's consumer price index above 4 percent in recent months.
